The guide to e-mail deliverability

What the findings mean and how to fix them, in the same categories as the report. Or straight to a topic:

What is e-mail deliverability?

Deliverability means: your mail lands in the inbox, not in spam and not nowhere. Receivers such as Gmail, Outlook or GMX decide this for every single mail, based on your DNS records and the reputation of your sender.

SPF defines which servers may send for your domain. DKIM signs every mail so that changes on the way are noticed. DMARC combines both and tells receivers what to do with mails that fail. MX determines where replies go, MTA-STS enforces encrypted reception, and BIMI shows your logo in supporting mailboxes.

If one of these building blocks is missing or set wrongly, mails often fail silently. bytereport checks them all in one step and shows the matching record for each finding.

Your test mails are yours.

People who send a mail to test often send real content. So we store as little as possible and tell you exactly what.

  • We delete test mails from the mailbox right after the analysis.
  • We never store the content of a mail, only header excerpts without recipient addresses.
  • Operated in Germany, nothing passed on to third parties.

Test-mail runs

Every run has its own one-time code. Only you see the report; you share it by a link you can revoke at any time.
