For website operators and bot directories

The bytereportBot

Intro

bytereport.eu is a service for website agencies, owners and companies that checks their websites at their request: e-mail deliverability, security, performance, SEO, AI visibility, accessibility and consent. bytereportBot is the bot behind these checks. It fetches only what a check someone started needs, does not crawl the web and collects no content. This page describes what its requests look like, how to recognise them and how to keep them out.

What the bot does

Every request goes back to a check a user started for a domain. Checked are the start page or a given page, plus robots.txt, the sitemap, security.txt, the page's files (scripts, stylesheets, images, fonts) and a small sample of internal links. A run fetches a few dozen addresses at most and then ends. The bot logs in nowhere, fills in no forms and stores no page content, only findings and short excerpts for the report.

How to recognise it

The requests come from these addresses and carry this User-Agent:

User-Agent
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/155.0.0.0 Safari/537.36 bytereportBot/1.0 (+https://bytereport.eu/bot)
Addresses
188.245.25.94/32 2a01:4f8:1c16:d0a3::1 As a list, one address per line: https://bytereport.eu/bot/addresses.txt
Browser
For accessibility and consent a Chrome loads the page with the same User-Agent.

How it behaves

  • A few requests per second per website at most, never more than one check at the same time for the same domain.
  • The crawl over several pages (accessibility, consent) respects the robots.txt. The page the user named is loaded like a browser visit.
  • No login, no forms, no purchases. The consent check only operates the cookie banner.
  • No copying of content; nothing is used to train AI models.

Keeping it out

A rule in the robots.txt stops the crawl over several pages:

User-agent: bytereportBot
Disallow: /

If single checks of your domain should stop as well, write to bot@bytereport.eu; we take the domain out.
