Before consent
What must not happen before consent
Before visitors have agreed, your website must not set tracking cookies or call statistics or advertising services. Only what the site technically needs is allowed.
How external content loads only after consent
Fonts, videos, maps and scripts from other servers send your visitors' IP address to their providers as soon as the page loads. Serve them from your own server or load them only after consent.
What transfers to third countries mean
If your page loads something from a provider outside the EU and EEA, the visitor's IP address goes to a third country. That needs a legal basis, and before consent it should only happen when it is really necessary.
